history in this two-seat TA-4J!

First introduced to the fleet in 1964 and flown by the Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team from 1974 to 1986, the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is one of the legendary planes in Marine Corps Aviation. Flying at speeds up to 620 mph and capable of carrying 8,500 lbs of ordinance-while maintaining excellent maneuverability, the A-4 was a highly effective combat aircraft.

Assigned Bureau Number 153,524, this Skyhawk first entered service during the Vietnam War in 1967. The storied past of “524” includes assignments at the Naval Weapons Fighter School (Top Gun) and with the weapons test squadron at the Naval Air Test Center, Pax River.  “524” was returned to flight status by The Collings Foundation with the authentic markings employed by H&MS-11, the “Playboys” during their combat tours in 1969 and 1970 at Da Nang, Republic of Vietnam. “524” is currently operated by The Collings Foundation and stationed at Ellington Field in Houston, Texas.
