Artist Lucy Rubin's art has always been inspired by nature, and this careful and delicate drawing of a Yellow Tufted Crane elegantly bending to the ground is proof of her passion. A passion to draw and preserve images of animals and nature that is at risk due to man-made climate and environmental change.
Most species of cranes are at the least classified as threatened, if not critically endangered, within their range. Its close cousin, the Grey Crowned Crane, is an Endangered species and judged by the IUCN to likely become extinct.
This image of such a magnificent bird - nestled in grassy areas, wings up to 2 meters in length outstretched, bright yellow tufted crown and black and white body - is a beautiful depiction of the Tufted Crane in its natural state.
Lucy Rubin is passionate about and captivated by Earth's creatures. "There's so much beauty" everywhere, she feels. She knows, however, that environmental and climate change will threaten the subjects of her art - those stunning creatures she paints, and their natural habitat. She is thrilled to donate her work to this cause and terribly moved by the consequences of climate change
Lucy was recently featured by Long Island's East End, "All that is Hamptons" publication, Dan's Papers, and she is part of The Artists Alliance and The Guild Hall, as well as other East Island art associations and exhibits.
