Item Description
Lazer-welded stainless steel, copper, and brass pendent
Co-designed by Torrey "Sarge" Smith and Shane "SAW" Sischo, "The City Surrounds Us" is a geared necklace pendant inspired by Zachary Coffin's kinetic work in 2012, and Rod Garrett's vision for Black Rock City. It is intended to be worn, played with and used as a cherished keepsake of the city we build together.
You will find multiple geometric links to Black Rock City, and as you rotate the gears you will find the components come back into alignment over time.
Artist Biography:
Torrey "Sarge" Smith: My first burn was 2012, where I imprinted on Pier 2 and Burn Wall Street. I founded Sextant to add an element of kinetic mayhem with our Zip-Line. That grew and gained Vünderbar (Ze bar in ze sky!) and our monster Tesla Coil, a project we're still working on to this day. I dream of zip-lining high above the open Playa, wooden roller coasters, and 750 ft wooden geodesic figures inspired by the works of Marco Cochrane. We love to give people symbols of the community we love to serve as daily reminders of the blessings we bring upon each other through love and kindness.
Shane SAW Sischo: a ten year attendant of Black Rock City. Primarily a steel fabricator and carpenter. I have helped on countless projects including temples and inner departments. Having attended BurningMan and also working for several regional burns as well as many outside festivals. My history with BurningMan can be seen more then known. Many times I have found myself helping many different projects. Including honorariums and temples, theme camps, volunteer requests for many of the different roles it takes to bring the event together. I have always enjoyed the chaos that is the event. The more unruly and seemingly impossible the project. the more I enjoy bringing it to life. Digging in and helping in whatever way I can. I have often lost myself and found a new self on playa.
Item Special Note
2" pendant with necklace strap.
