Sadie Upton Vineyard received 93 points from Stephen Tanzer's IWC. Moderately saturated bright red. Very floral, scented nose offers an almost pinot-like perfume of red cherry, violet, rose petal, spices and orange peel, along with a candied nuance and a whiff of mint. Juicy, firm and high-pitched, with a richness belying its color. Flavors of strawberry, raspberry, pepper and menthol are lifted by ethereal spices. Finishes with substantial tongue-dusting tannins, building floral perfume and a delicate light touch. The Hayne Vineyard is one of our most exceptional sites. Located in an idyllic warm yet breezy spot on the west side of St. Helena, Turley has worked with this vineyard and the Hayne family for over twenty years. The head- trained, dry-farmed Zinfandel vines were planted in 1902 and 1903, and they produce wines of power and elegance in every vintage. Year after year, this wine serves as the archetype for Zinfandel and Napa Valley.
