Item Description
1 bottle each:
2014 Oak Farm Vineyards, Indigenous, Cemetery Vineyard, Lodi
Bold and nicely astringent, this wine is full bodied, rich in flavor and even richer in texture due to a thick layer of fine tannins. Built almost like a Cabernet but with brighter fruit flavors, the wine is attractively dry and meant to be enjoyed with something rich like a roast or steak.
2014 Michael David Winery, Earthquake, Lodi
Over the top and shattering to the veins! These wines possess major concentration and daring flavor with only a limited production offered each year. The original is the Earthquake Zin that comes from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the same time of San Francisco’s great Earthquake of 1906. While mulling over a label name in the vineyard, Michael Phillips thought it only seemed fitting to relate this intense wine with the historical quake. These dark and voluminous wines will denitely leave your senses quivering.
2014 Angry Bunch Wines, Lodi
Deep ruby color. Elegant notes of wild violet and rose blend with fresh blueberry, raspberry and concentrated bramble notes. Robust, concentrated fruit with a ripe texture and juicy mouthfeel blends with hints of spice and vanilla to create a powerful yet well-balanced palate. Bright acidity complements hearty tannins and provides for a lasting, complex finish.
Pairs well with barbecue, grilled meats, zesty pasta, braised pork, and hearty cheeses.
2011 St. Amant, Marian's Vineyard, Old Vine, Lodi
Marian’s Vineyard
THE MOTHER OF ALL ZINFANDELS
In early 1999 my father went to Jerry Fry and suggested that they strive to make the best possible Zinfandel - a wine that would put Lodi on the map. Jerry was to choose his best vineyard block and we would spare no expense to craft the most delicious wine possible. Jerry chose an 8.3 acre own-rooted vineyard planted in 1901 in the sandy soils just south of his house. Jerry named it “Marian’s Vineyard” after his mother. At the time, Marian Mohr Fry Zimmerman was the matriarch of the Mohr-Fry Ranch farming operation. She passed away on September 13, 2007 at the age of 94, but was the inspiration and namesake for our Marian’s Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel.
That wine became widely recognized, and the 2001 vintage was awarded the best Zinfandel at the California State Fair. Subsequent vintages have received extensive recognition and it is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive vineyards of the appellation, and has definitely put Lodi on the map.
Walking the rows of the vineyard I often find it amazing that these gnarled old vines, some filled with holes, others propped up with a weathered stake, continue to thrive and produce such wonderful fruit. It’s truly a perfect spot for Zinfandel that is only complemented by the nurturing care given by Jerry & Bruce Fry. Their efforts consistently deliver flavored-packed grapes to our cellar doors.
Considering St. Amant is my mother’s name, and Marian is the grower’s mother, this wine is often dubbed “The Mother of all Zinfandel’s!”
2007 M2, Soucie Vineyard, Old Vine, Lodi
This wine has a ridiculous alcohol of 16.3%, which makes it prickly, and the dryness makes it taste even hotter, since there's no sugar to balance and soften. It's got extremely ripe blackberry-pie flavors. Be careful if you drink this; a little goes a long way.
2014 Mc Cay Cellars, Lodi, Rose
This Dry Rose’ of Grenache exhibits notes of Strawberry, Stone Peach with hints of Red Ruby Grapefruit. Well balanced and round through the palate crafted in a traditional old world style using Native fermentation and produced in stainless steel.
