2012 Zydeco, Napa Valley

From the beautiful Bingham Ranch on the floor of Napa Valley just outside of Calistoga, this wine is typical of a Napa Zinfandel - dark, rich, and intense! Blackberries and dark black cherries greet your senses in this rich, extracted wine. The brand new French oak the wine is lovingly aged in is the perfect compliment to the fruit, adding hints of chocolate and toasty vanilla tones and exotic spice in the finish. The wine starts with an initial explosion of black fruit, and then opens layer upon layer of rich fruit and spice, to a long and mouth filling finish.

Vineyards: Bingham Ranch is one of the oldest vineyards in the Napa Valley and has a history of producing award winning wines. It has been in the same family since the mid 1800's, homesteading times, and was planted with vineyards in the 1950's. The zinfandel was planted in the 1980's, and is on the northern edge of the ranch. It is a small berry clone that benefits from extended hang time for optimal ripeness.

The Wine: Harvested in late October, the zinfandel from Bingham Ranch was perfect! Fruit was hand sorted, and then crushed and de-stemmed into three-quarter ton macro bins. A three-day cold soak was done before fermentation. Hand punched down twice a day during fermentation and then gently pressed off and put into 100% French oak barrels. The wine was racked four times while aging in barrels, and then lightly filtered for bottling.

2011 Allegrezza, Alexander Valley

"Allegrezza" means joyful: named as such because we know this Zin will make your taste buds jump for joy. The aromatics leap from the glass and the mix of bright and dark berry fruit immediately excites the palate. Allegrezza hails from the Harris Kratka Vineyard, which has long been producing stellar, award-winning Zinfandel. Tucked away in Alexander Valley, this vineyard produces small berry clones that benefit from extended hang time for the perfect ripeness producing rich, dark Zinfandel.

Vineyards: Alexander Valley, and the Harris Kratka Vineyard in particular, is known for its dark, rich, intense Zinfandel. Blackberries, dark black cherries and black raspberries are the predominant fruits in the rich, extracted wine. Hints of cola, eucalyptus, dark chocolate and exotic spice round out the mouth-watering Zinfandel. Revel in the long, silky finish.

The Wine: The Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignane were harvested in late October,  then hand sorted, and crushed and de-stemmed into a combination of three-quarter ton macro bins and steel tank. A three-day cold soak was done before fermentation; the three varietals were co-fermented. The bins were hand punched down twice a day, and the tank had a pump-over twice a day during fermentation. It was then gently pressed off and put into 100% French oak barrels. The wine was racked four times while aging in barrels, and then lightly filtered for bottling.

2014 Swingsville, Contra Costa

We are often asked "Where is Swingsville?" The answer: "It's a state of mind!" This wine is perhaps our best Swingsville effort to date. A wine with zesty complexity, it is full of blackberries and fresh strawberries, with creamy cherries and hints of delicious pepper and spice and tobacco notes. Toasty vanilla and a subtle leathery, earthiness come from the oak program, creating a wine that is complex, yet eminently drinkable. Relish the juicy dark berry flavors, the elegant spicy aftertaste and the long, lingering, smooth, round finish. Match with a myriad of spicy foods or grilled meats. Or sip it by itself and savor!

Vineyards: Our 2014 vintage is a combination of Zinfandel from Favalora Vineyard and Petite Sirah from Lovett Vineyard in Lake County. Atypical of Zin from Contra Costa (usually bright berry flavors) the Favalora fruit is dark and intense, and of exceptional character. The small percentage of Petite Sirah from Lovett adds considerable richness to the overall wine.

The Wine: In keeping with the tradition of the Swingsville Zinfandel, the Favalora fruit shows a combination of bright and dark berry flavors - a delicious fruit forward characteristic without being over-the-top jammy, all surrounded by great structure and subtle tannins. The Lovett Petite Sirah was added in the final blend for additional richness, structure, color, and to punch up the darker berry fruit characteristics. The oak program, a combination of new French and American Oak, was limited so that the wine would be well balanced and supple. The wine was cross flow filtered, helping to level out the tannins, creating a nice, soft mouth-feel.
