Item Description

Magunum (1.5L) 2013 Dashe Cellars, Bedrock Vineyard, Sonoma Valley

HISTORY
This is our second single-vineyard offering from this spectacular vineyard in the heart of Sonoma Valley. One of the oldest vineyards in the state, the Bedrock Vineyard was originally owned by Generals Sherman and Hooker of Civil War fame. These particular vines were planted in 1888, making them some of the oldest vines in the state.

We were approached by Morgan Peterson, who owns the vineyard together with his father, Joel Peterson, to make Zinfandel from these vines. Because we liked the fruit so much, we decided to make a special wine available only to our Wine Club members. This isn't a dark, brooding wine—it's a celebration of old-vine fruit flavor with only 79 cases made.

PRODUCTION
The warm and dry ripening conditions of 2013 delivered perfectly mature Zinfandel grapes from old vines, producing about two tons per acre. We harvested into half ton picking bins, hand-sorted the fruit on conveyors, and fermented the grapes using the native yeasts on the grapes. At dryness, the wine was gently pressed in a membrane press and pumped into traditional 60-gallon oak barrels.

Because we loved the regular format 2013 Bedrock Zinfandel, we decided to hold back one barrel of wine and age it an additional 6 months in one-year or older French oak barrels to give added depth and complexity. We only bottled 25 cases of this magnum format wine and, in this larger format, we believe the wine improve with up to fifteen years of bottle age.
