Item Description
In September 1985, Bulgarian artist Christo Yavacheff and French artist Jeanne-Claude, known jointly as Christo and Jeanne-Claude, “wrapped” the Pont-Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris.
In doing so, they deployed 450,000 square feet of woven polyamide fabric, silky in appearance and golden sandstone in color, covering:
-
The sides and vaults of the 12 arches
-
The parapets down to the ground
-
The sidewalks and curbs (such that pedestrians walked on the fabric)
-
The street lamps on both sides of the bridge
-
The vertical part of the embankment of the western tip of the Île de la Cité
-
The Esplanade of the Vert-Galant
Bid now for an autographed poster of this piece signed by Christo and Jean-Claude, who also installed “The Gates” along 23 miles of pathways in New York City’s Central Park in 2005.
