From the Artist:
I have been a professional Fine Artist since I was 21, when I started selling paintings of human figures in art galleries. In 1991 I was badly injured in an incident in which my Doberman Jake saved my life. Unable to work for a year, when I started painting again all I wanted to paint was my hero, my soulmate, my beautiful Jake. The passion in my artwork soon caught the attention of Dobe enthusiasts at a national level. Many original paintings of Jake, and reproductions on thousands of notecards, prints, and shirts were sold over the next few years. When Jake died in 1997 my inspiration died with him. I have continued my passion for capturing the beauty of Dobermans, portraying many Dobermans for clients: beloved family pets as well as Champion show dogs. But I never did another painting of Jake....until now.
About this artwork:
There were so many things about Jake that made my heart sing. But what brought me the most delight was a feast for my eyes and a song in my soul all the years I had him. It was a sport Jake discovered when he was young, and he engaged in it at every opportunity: Fishing. Every pond, stream, lake, river, and tide-pool we visited, Jake would spend hours stalking the elusive little fish….tiptoeing as lightly as a fairy so as not to scare them, intently scanning the water, and when he had one, pounce! He would dive under clear up to his chest. (Whether he ever caught one, only he knew.) He would stay in the water until he was shivering and had to be told to get out. Fishing was what made Jake’s heart sing.
I shot hundreds of photos and created many paintings of Jake fishing, in an attempt to capture the poetic beauty of a magnificent Doberman dancing through the water, his sleek, mirror-smooth coat brilliant in the sun, muscles rippling, with his shimmering reflection mimicking every graceful movement. It’s the closest I have ever known to heaven.
Now, for the first time since Jake’s death in 1997, I created a new painting of Jake fishing. The original hangs in my own collection. A fine art print of it will be available to Doberman lovers. It is a very small Limited Edition, limited to only 30 high-quality prints, hand-signed and numbered by the Artist. The first print in the edition, numbered 1, is reserved for this auction. The rest of the edition will not be released until after the winning bidder has received their print. Please bid generously to benefit our beloved Dobermans. Thank you.
