Considered one of America's most important architects, Holl is the subject of The Dorsky Museum’s 2018 Hudson Valley Masters series, Steven Holl: Making Architecture.
In addition to his work as an architect, Holl is a master watercolorist. While working in close collaboration with a tightly knit group of architects in his architecture firm in New York City, Holl also maintains a studio at his home in the Hudson Valley where he engages in the art practices and writing that are the basis of his conceptual thinking. Holl draws with watercolors every day—a solitary and hermetic practice from which each of his projects emerges. He also develops conceptual ideas in sculpture. On his Hudson Valley property, Holl has designed a workspace specifically for creating watercolors with a view of a nearby lake.
