Thanks to the efforts of a vibrant horticulture community, Bellevue Botanical Garden is a municipal garden that feels like a beloved private garden. Northwest Perennial Alliance, Hardy Fern Foundation, Eastside Fuchsia Society, and other local horticultural groups work with Garden staff to display the best plants and gardening practices for beautiful, healthy Northwest gardens. The Bellevue Botanical Garden Society offers events and educational programs throughout the year. In June 2014, the Garden opened a brand new Visitor Center, Education Center, Trillium Store, and several new gardens.
After earning her degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Nancy Kartes began her career at the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Hawaii. In 1992, she was hired to manage the brand new Bellevue Botanical Garden. She took several years off to focus on cultivating her children, and returned to the Garden in 2007. It has been a joy and an honor for her to work with so many talented garden enthusiasts. Nancy currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Public Garden Association.
