Item Description

This package for up to 4 people includes:

  • A private tour of River Farm, national headquarters of the American Horticultural Society in Alexandria, Virginia.
  • Picnic lunch overlooking the Potomac River with Beth Tuttle, President & CEO and/or Dan Scott, Associate Director, Gardens and Facilities
  • One night stay with breakfast (Value=$259) at the Hampton Inn Old Town Area South

Once part of one of George Washington’s original five farms, River Farm comprises 25 historic and picturesque acres overlooking the Potomac River just south of Washington, D.C. It comprises several formal and informal gardens, such as the Andre Bluemel Meadow and beloved Children's Garden.

Beth Tuttle, the new president & CEO of the AHS, has a wealth of expertise in nonprofit management for cultural organizations. She is also a Master Gardener who enjoys growing native plants and edibles. Dan Scott worked at George Washington's Mount Vernon in its landcape division before taking his current position at River Farm this past summer. He has a penchant for weird, rare, or unusual plant species.

Item Special Note

Best time to visit: River Farm has year-round interest, but spring and fall are particularly good times to visit.

Conditions/limitations for this item:  Tour to be arranged at a mutually agreeable time subject to host’s availability by September 11, 2018. Hotel stay must be on a Friday or Saturday night.
