It has been estimated that over 20% of all dogs suffer from separation anxiety or fear of loud noises, such as thunder or fireworks. Considering that almost 37% of all U.S. households own a dog, this means there are more than 32 million households who share a fear of thunder.
The existing treatments for dog anxiety and excitability are not considered homeopathic and pet-friendly. For example, one solution might be to administer anxiety medication, e.g. Xanax, to help calm the dog. However, in this case the pet owner must be present to administer the medication. This may not be possible for many owners with full time employment. Another disadvantage is that it takes some time to process in the dog's digestive system and will begin working in 30 minutes to an hour. This may not be an effective solution a fast rolling thunderstorm or the occasional fireworks display. Another existing solution might be using a close-fitting jacket to help calm the dog. This solution has the same disadvantage as the medication in that the owner needs to be present to provide this treatment. In addition, the close-fitting jackets may be too large and heavy for smaller dogs. Incorporating the latest technology, the ZenCrate automatically detects when an animal goes inside the enclosure and immediately begins playing calming music selected based on research studies. The acoustics of the enclosure are designed to quiet sounds from outside noises, and also to keep the music inside. The reduced light exposure and confined geometry of the enclosure also help calm the animal once he enters the enclosure. Lastly, the design includes vibration damping technology to attenuate the physical vibrations from outside thunder or heavy machinery.
With these attributes, the ZenCrate solves three problems;
- Pet owners may now feel comfortable with a natural, organic solution for their pet's anxiety
- They need not be present to administer medication or comfort
- The calming effects of the music and confined space help soothe the animal immediately
