Item Description
Mary Metzger at East Street Native Plants raises plants for gardeners who want to help preserve native invertebrates. The native plants and "bugs" are the base of all our ecosystems. Besides the non-native honey bee which helps humans produce 40% of what we eat, there are hundreds of native pollinators which are beneficial to humans. To quote Mary, "I am growing weeds for bugs." Native plants are also often more drought and cold tolerant.
Mary is inspired by the work of Doug Tallamy at the University of Delaware who wrote the book "Bringing Nature Home." For a summary of his research.
East Street Native Plants is no longer a business, but a Fundraiser for Conservation Effort.
Details: Plants available Mid May to Mid September, 2017 in Ayer, MA. Gift certificate will entitle bearer to Five Pollinator Plants.
Item Special Note
Gift certificate will be mailed to winning bidder at the close of the auction on December 1st.
