Item Description
This is an amazing opportunity to get to the core of what GDA does best, train guide dogs. This is truly a one of a kind experience. But, don't just take our word for it... read what one of our prior winners had to say:
"I and my guest enjoyed the day so much and was exactly what I wanted to experience. Our Trainer was professional, very informative, and a pleasure to be around. He allowed us to interact a lot with the dogs and the day went very well. We could not have asked for a better day!"
Join the trainers for a full day and participate in all facets of what they do and how they work with the dogs. Arriving early to start the day by participating in the morning kennel duties, loading dogs into their kennels in the van and heading into the city where you will observe and participate in the daily activities that the trainers do. This would include obedience exercises, indoor skills, escalators, stairs, elevators, blindfold walks, etc. We will treat you to lunch and then back to work! You will arrive tired but happy back at the school around 2:30 or 3:00 pm for a debriefing conference and of course you can ask as many questions as you like.
This is an active day so please wear sturdy shoes and be prepared to look a little "dog tired" by the end of the day – a truly outstanding and educational opportunity to observe firsthand everything that is involved in getting these amazing dogs trained and out the door and ready for their visually impaired partners. You might also pick up some good training tips for dealing with your own pets!
Important Notes: For two people, Monday through Friday on a date mutually agreed upon with the training department. Winners must be at least 18 years of age and able to walk 4 to 5 miles (broken up) in one day near our campus.
