Ricky Powell was born and raised in New York City and his photographs mainly focus on New Yorkers. Powell initially rose to fame with his relationship with the Beastie Boys and is well known for his intimate photographs which have been featured in many publications such as The New York Times, the New York Post, the Daily News (New York), The Village Voice, TIME, Newsweek, VIBE, The Source, Rolling Stone, and many others.
