Item Description

Knit with the New England Alpaca Fiber Pool's latest suri alpaca yarn blend, this soft, fawn colored lap blanket offers an intricate pattern with a soft and delicate touch.  It's warm enough for an extra layer on those chilly nights, yet lightweight enough to be packed up for on the go.  Generous in size, it can be enjoyed by anyone in the family - it's great for a crib or baby blanket, yet large enough for an adult to cozy up with on the couch.  This makes a spectacular gift!

Measures 48" by 42" and contains 60% US suri alpaca fiber, 40% nylon.  Throw should be handwashed in cold water and laid flat to dry.

Located in Fall River, MA, the New England Alpaca Fiber Pool (NEAFP) is an alpaca fiber processing solution supporting farms of all sizes across the United States. We pride ourselves on exclusively manufacturing U.S. Grown alpaca fiber domestically for over 20 years. Our solution provides alpaca farms with a method to maximize the value of their fiber and gain access to commercial scale processing all while maintaining complete control over their business.  See more of their beautiful creations and find a farm store near you at www.neafp.com

Suri alpacas are a rare breed indeed - fewer than 10% of the world's alpaca are suri. The Suri alpaca is a member of the camelid family, which includes the llama, Huacaya alpaca, the wild vicuna and guanaco, and yes, the camel. The Suri dates back between 5 to 20 thousand years and is known from archaeological records to have been domesticated for at least 6,000 years.

Among the people of the Andes, the woven fabric from the fleece of the alpaca was so soft and alluring that it was used as currency. The Suri alpaca has unique fiber characteristics that distinguish the Suri from the rest of the camelid family. Unlike the soft fuzzy look of the Huacaya alpaca, the Suri's long, separate, distinctive locks are comprised of twisted or flat fibers that drape down the sides of the Suri's body. The Suri's fiber has a cool, slick hand: soft as cashmere, warmer than wool, with the luster of silk.
