Item Description

Gorgeous Keeper | I have painted my bass as if it is underwater and luminous with the light that glints off its scales and lights its eyes while still alive. Since I have never seen a bass underwater, I am using my imagination and artistic license to imagine what he would look like. I want him to be gorgeous and have called him "Gorgeous Keeper."

Artist:  Rosalie Ripaldi Shane

Rosalie Ripaldi Shane has been painting on the island since 1982 as a summer resident of Edgartown. And while she lives in Boston, her painting has been inspired by this beautiful place. Her heart is here. The bright, blue light of the sea permeates her work, either of seascapes, landscapes or still lifes. Bright, clear color, lots of it, is what you will see in all her paintings. She works in oil on canvas and her paintings exhibit strong, clear images with very textured paint surfaces. Rosalie is also known at the "cupcake lady." Inspired by a cupcake painting she did for her granddaughter's first birthday, she has painted over a hundred and fiftly small cupcake paintings. Patrons of the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown, where she exhibits, look for her newest cupcakes every summer. The thick paint of the frosting on these confections make the viewer want to "lick" these delicious pieces.
