My small studio in Dedham has become a space for brainstorming in all kind of ways and the work lately is about experimenting with ideas and different arbitrary materials. I find myself flirting, testing and risking within my surroundings and inside my studio walls it’s been a time for the imagination to wonder and hopefully flourish.
I was born in Cali, Colombia and after finishing High School in Bogotá I moved to Italy where I enrolled in the “Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara”. I was privileged to study Graphic Design under the guidance of distinguished professors like Bruno Munari, Vittorio Coppola, Pier Carlo Santini, Getulio Alviani and others. After ending school, a fifth year in Florence was devoted to curating a show at Palazzo Strozzi along with other two artists after winning a competition. Upon returning to Bogotá in1983 and after getting married, my husband and I traveled to Boston where we decided to pursue our studies. I spent two years at the SMFA focusing on Graphic Design under the supervision of Judith Richland and Joe Landry and participated in the “Fifth Year Competition” before graduating in 1986. In the real world, I worked in a graphic design office in Cambridge and eventually ended up freelancing on my own for several years. For personal reasons I stopped and didn't pursue the arts until I joined Ruth Kates in 2005. This was the first time that I painted realistic work and I was hooked. Never stopped after that. Along the way, while my kids were growing up, I also helped design the sets for the musicals at The Bowen School in Newton.
