Item Description

Yvette Lillge

A visual communication artist by training from Loyola University in Chicago, I took one mosaic class 12 years ago and never looked back. I have worked with paint, charcoal, oil pastels, stone and computer graphics but memorized by stained glass mosaics. Crafting a stained glass mosaic painting requires commitment, vision, and well thought out organization along with a lot of Band-Aids. As I explored creating more visual depth and a different perspective to my work I am now combining two passions into my pieces- mosaics with flameworked or glass blown inclusions.

As a contemporary glass artist my work is to transfix the viewer with the beauty of this magical material that transmits light in a special way. My admiration for botanicals and nature can be seen through my stained glass mosaic paintings that celebrate complex layering of form, careful crafting of space and shadowing. Each painting is numbered and signed and I never duplicate paintings for those who are interested in collecting my work.  I came to flameworking a little later in life and took my first class about six years ago and became hooked. Hot glass is pugnacious and unyielding that it creates a restricted set of confines for me to work my will on. As a trained flameworker and silversmith, I merge lampwork beads with sterling silver to create unique and unusual jewelry. The natural ocean landscape and colors of the New England shorelines is infused in my work, from my glass pendant necklaces called Sea Stones to my Sea and Surf Leather and Sterling Silver bracelets.

My glass art studio has been a life-long dream and I’m constantly improving it and running out of space. It’s a place where I dream big, “Zen” into my work and continue to explore new ways to express myself through glass. My studio is located in Dedham, MA.
