Item Description
ARTIST:
J Charboneau
ARTIST STATEMENT:
This contemporary painting depicts a serine landscape which I sketched plein air while hiking around Lake Tahoe.
The new-growth tree in the foreground symbolizes a mixture of poems and haikus I have written about new-growth and finally finding the ‘place of beauty’ within one’s soul. The original sketch had this poem accompany it:
“I sit atop a visual retreat.
Sublime. Stable. Conquering.
A mountain Buddha. I sit.”

ARTIST BIO:
Born in 1986, Jennifer Charboneau is an energetic U.S. artist with roots from the bustling city of Minneapolis. Since completing a fine arts degree in 2008 she has traveled to 21 different countries and lived in three. She lives and breathes as a nomadic artist.
Her creative process begins with obsessive observation of the diverse cities and landscapes she wanders through. What begins as chaotic pen sketches and captured moments in prose, later become later become refined instinctual abstractions of form and movement. These “Visual Philosophies” enlighten the eye with bold chaotic brushstrokes while an intentional vagueness of form and space allows the subjective experience to be relative to all.
Some muses that influence Charboneau’s artwork across all borders are: impressionism, expressionism, street art, nature, philosophy, jazz, haiku, prose poetry, and social anthropology.
She is a visual philosopher who is out to absorb all that this life has to show.... Then spit it out onto canvas and paper as chaotically and yet beautifully as it was first observed.
