Item Description
Iranian born artist and now New Canaan, Connecticut resident, Afsaneh Djabbari-Aslani attended USC’s Roski School of Fine Arts, at the onset of the Iranian revolution. The upheaval in her native country culminating with the U.S. Embassy hostage crisis dramatically transformed her world, with significant influence on her artistic work.
"Shiraz" is a stunning still life piece that evokes all the color and comfort of a world far away, yet familiar.
Artist Statement: "Iran is one of the most beautiful and colorful cities I have seen. As an artist I tried to capture the colorful stained glass used in various architectural buildings in one painting. Iran is known as the land of Turquoise, until you visit Shiraz, where color makes it the city of flowers and poetry."
