Item Description

In July 1844, Henry David Thoreau came to Catskill, NY where the great Hudson River School painters Thomas Cole and Frederick Church were in residence. Deborah Medenbach will lead a kayak paddle from the village of Catskill out into the Hudson River to the Ram's Horn Preserve, where eagles, osprey, beaver and a wide variety of songbirds and wildflowers will be encountered. If you like, tailor this trip for photo ops and watercolor breaks. The next day, visit Church's scenic home, Olana, designed by Calvert Vaux, that overlooks the Hudson River, with every window placed to highlight a living landscape. See why it was irresistable to artists and find your own inspiration.

Item Special Note

Deborah Medenbach is a writer who lives, hikes and kayaks in the Hudson Valley and has years of experience leading groups on nature trips in the US and Europe. Bring your own kayak and art supplies and make your own hotel arrangements. Fat sea kayak suggested since the Hudson can be choppy at times. PFDs required in NY. Hotel suggestions available.
