Item Description
Title: A View of the Bosque.
Materials: Glass Beads
Assembly: Each child created their own strand choosing from many individual glass and composite beads.
Outside support: Dr. Annie Nash (Upper School Art at MDS) and Rashan Jones (local glass artist) collaborated in making the beads in the correct colors to match our class vision. Mrs. Jamie Jones (as her role of Leah’s mom) came into the class in her spare time to help us make each individual strand.
Inspiration: The colors of Spring rental in Albuquerque looking from West to East.
We wanted to replicate the colors of the renewal process of Spring in Albuquerque. We begin at the bottom with cobalt blue and clear to represent the depth of the river filled with snow-melted water. We continue with earthy browns which represent our sandy desert. We move on to all the variations of green to represent the budding vegetation on the edge of the Rio Grande. We finally end with the lighter more subtle blues to represent the 250+ days of sunshine per year we have in NM. A thin whittled piece of cottonwood holds together the beauty and sparkle of the glass beads.
