Item Description
Our class gala project, "Collaborative Blanket Painting (48" x 36")" is an acrylic painting on canvas. This Kino James-led project is an example of learning about "collaboration" and how art and culture is influenced by many different styles and ideas woven together. Our blanket painting is an example of an actual Navajo blanket weaving from UNM's Maxwell Museum of Anthropology (Phase III chief's pattern blanket, c. 1865). The particular weaving style was developed thru a collaboration of native American styles where Navajo and Pueblo people were introduced to new techniques, materials, and colors. The kids learned about how complex these weavings were back then and what it took to create them. Collaborative Blanket Painting.
