Item Description
Coil built terra cotta pot by Jabu Nala. Transfer decoration by Arthur Halvorsen. Cone 02 low fire. 12.5" H x 11 " W x 11" D.
This is a collaborative piece that Jabu and Arthur worked on while Jabu was visiting Mudflat in July 2019.
Jabu Nala is from rural Oyaya KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and learned pottery directly from her grandmother, Siphiwe, and her mother, Nesta Nala. Nesta became world renowned for her exceptional skill and artistry. Jabu Nala, along with her sisters Thembi and Bongi, continue in the family’s esteemed tradition of Zulu Ceramics.
Arthur Halvorsen is a studio artist at Mudflat. He teaches classes and workshops at Mudflat, Lesley University and other venues nationally. Arthur is the recipient of the 2019 Brother Thomas Fellowship. Learn more about Arthur and his work here: http://arthurhalvorsenceramics.com/
