Item Description
TITLE OF PIECE: 'Living a Charmed Life'
INSPIRATION FOR THE PIECE - ARTIST NEUROSCIENTIST MATCH UP:
Angela Morgan with the Branch Out funded project of Isabel Hedayat from the University of Saskatchewan
'Use of Haptic Anchors to Improve Balance and Mobility in Aging Populations'
Angela’s work celebrates humanity through the use of colour, pattern and line. Colours fuse and meld to achieve gesture, transforming abstract images into living moments. These three lovely women in the piece were the perfect match to reflect haptic feedback which helps aging people improve their walking stability. The study used little bags on the end of strings as a way to give haptic feedback. To use the haptic anchors , the people had to lift their arms in the air just like the 3 women are doing. The eyes of the ladies are not visible which is seems symbolic-where we can sometimes tap into our sense of our bodies position and move when we don’t have visual information.
ARTIST BIO:
Angela Morgan (nee Harlton) lives and works in Fernie, B.C. The completion of her Bachelor in fine arts degree (BFA) in April of 2000 ended a ten year stretch of university education. Angela attended Bismarck State College in North Dakota, Concordia University in Montreal, University of Regina, and finally the University of Calgary.
Angela Morgan’s work celebrates humanity through the use of colour, pattern, and line. Her human figures express the poses of life; the jubilation of dance, the contemplation of parenthood, and the melancholy of summer’s end. Colours fuse and meld to achieve gesture, transforming abstract images into living moments. Angela is represented in galleries across Canada, Widen Switzerland, Dublin, Ireland and Los Angeles, California.
