TITLE OF PIECE: 'Everyone Can Find Their Inner Stardom'
INSPIRATION FOR THE PIECE - ARTIST NEUROSCIENTIST MATCH UP:
Michelle Screpnechuk with the Branch Out funded project of Bin Hu from the University of Calgary and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute.
"Serenading the Parkinson's Brain"
When speaking to Dr. Bin Hu one instantaneously feels the energy in his interesting research of musical walking program linking music with brain motivation. Dr. Hu’s study came from basic research of the brain and how it can regulate movements like walking for Parkinson’s patients. Parkinson’s disease a degenerative neurological condition that destroys dopamine producing cells critical for movement typically resulting in tremors.
Dr. Hu noticed with Parkinson’s patients that received ambulosono gait control training patients regained independent living and symptoms of freezing of gait were no longer occurring. Brain training allowed the patient to find their inner beat with musical training.
The vision of my piece is such that the world is round like a musical record and patients that received the ambulosono training became more motivated to practice their gait training. Motivation led to increase in confidence, each patient & walking path different each finding their own inner stardom within our world. You will notice many paths on my canvas, no two paths the same while using a multitude of colours.
