The Old Course, with more demanding shot values on driving accuracy and distance, complements the North Course, which requires a more exacting short game. The Old Course is generally a walking only golf course.
The tilted greens of the Old Course are a throwback to Garden City Golf Club, in New York, where there is an open approach for players who want to bounce the ball into the greens, but they must take a different line of play to avail themselves of the option. The five short holes on each course are reminiscent of the many William Flynn designs around Philadelphia, such as Rolling Green and Manufacturers and Lancaster, each of which also boasts of five great par-3's.
The Old Course, and subsequently the North Course, were designed to reflect vision of Stonewall's low key, natural and "golf only" personality and design. As noted by Golf World with respect to the Old Course: "Stonewall has low-profile greens, fairways hugging side slopes and tall, tan fescue roughs. It has two of the finest par 4s anywhere, the sixth and eighth, and two of the plainest-looking par 4s — the 13th and 16th, that you'll ever double bogey."
Stonewall is located in Elverson, PA in beautiful northwest Chester County.
