"As a visual artist, I primarily make drawings that are text-based and speculative. The work is meant to be enjoyed for its form and aesthetic quality and invites investigations into the strands of literal meaning. The text is readable in linear and non linear ways, and is themed on subjects such as the mind, free will and how that relates to whether we discover or create identities.
In 2018 I was trained by the Canadian Mental Health Association as a peer support worker, and consider mental health advocacy a part of my practice. Mental wellness and the path to mental wellness look different for everyone, so I think the more options available for treatment, the better. This funding contributes to an important niche within that ecosystem.
The Your Brain On Art initiative is always such a pleasure to be a part of. It’s one of my favourite yearly events. I’m honoured to interact with Dr's who are actively involved in such important neurological research. The interdisciplinary connections are a great aspect too. I always come away feeling inspired, and I find that these encounters affect my practice as a whole
I strongly believe in the power and need for more non-pharmaceutical solutions in neurological care. We have a lot to learn when it comes to the mind and the brain, and I look forward to seeing us progress in our understanding. YBOA is a part of this initiative and I’m grateful my talents can help with it in some way."
