Item Description
Artist: Michelle Screpnechuk
Size: 24" x 24"
Medium: Acrylic Mixed Media on Wood Panel
Research Project: A Fiery Colon Could Cause Anxiety
Scientist: Dr. Haley Vecchiarelli
"After speaking to Dr. Haley Vecchiarelli one learns the relationship between Colitis, or inflammatory disease & anxiety. According to Dr. Vecchiarelli:
“Colitis is also associated with reductions of endocannabinoids (the body’s version of cannabis) in the brain. By boosting endocannabinoids we can alleviate colitis-induced anxiety.”
She feels this should hopefully provide the foundation for using cannabinoids (endocannabinoids and cannabis-plant derived) to treat both the gut inflammation and associated changes in anxiety. In my piece, one sees the colour green representing nutrition, flowing through the coloured texture representing the uncomfortable inflammation ending with a reduction in the texture showing the golden bright side of things."
