Item Description
Autographed baseball by Tyler Rogers #71 (Submariner) Pitcher
Excerpt from the San Francisco Chronicle May 18, 2021 following an on the road win on May 17 over the Cincinatti Reds. San Francisco defeated Cincinatti 6-3.
Tyler Rogers was getting some grief on the Giants' flagship station the other day, when KNBR’s morning duo of Murph and Mac noted that his white cleats are overly reminiscent of the A’s famous footwear.
There’s a reason for that, Rogers protested Tuesday: strategy, helpfully provided by a hitter who figured the submarining right-hander might benefit.
A few years ago, Austin Slater brought it up, because my release point is down by my shoes, Rogers explained. So, you know, I should wear white cleats, white ball, white clothes down there in that vicinity. So, not only does it look good, but hopefully it is helping a little bit.
Rogers is one of the most reliable relievers in the game, and he leads the majors in appearances (24), on the heels of leading baseball in that category last year (29). Manager Gabe Kapler said the team would love to have more comfortable leads and provide Rogers more days off, but that hasn’t been their M.O.; 24 of the Giants’ 42 games have been decided by one or two runs.
That makes Rogers a big key: He has a 0.73 ERA and a 0.770 WHIP, and has held opponents to a .170 average and a .232 on-base percentage. In May, Rogers has been especially effective: four hits and no walks in nine appearances covering nine innings, and he has earned three saves.
