ABOUT THE ARTIST: Born and raised in the island of O’ahu, Noelani Jones (she/her) is a community-building Fiber Artist passionate about strengthening communities and individuals with art and an appreciation for the natural world. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2017 with her BFA in Craft and Material Studies and a concentration in Fibers and Ceramics. Known as the “Weaver Beaver,” a play on words addressing the history of weaving in the Western world being considered “women’s work.” There is merit to following in the footsteps of those who came before us and keeping the craft alive and remembered.

Since 2019, Jones has attended Penland School of Craft of North Carolina, an international craft education center located in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains to learn advanced weaving and natural dyeing techniques. Her work has been exhibited at Virginia Commonwealth University's Anderson Gallery, Studio Two Three and Gallery 5 in Richmond, VA, Terrain Exhibitions in Chicago, Loyola University's Julio Fine Arts Gallery, the Annmarie Sculpture Garden in Solomons, MD, Maryland Art Place in Baltimore, MD, and the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, MD. Additionally, Jones is a recipient of the 2018 VCUArts Undergraduate Research Grant, a 2018 Anderson Space Grant, and her textiles were nominated nominated "best in show" at the High Point Furniture Market Spring 2019. She has been an artist-in-residence at Lazuli Residency of Corinth, Vermont, Shelter Residency of Overland Artworks, the Sable Project of Stockbridge, Vermont, and most recently the Annmarie Sculpture Garden of Solomons, Maryland.

As a teacher, Jones believes anyone can be a weaver and anything can be a thread. Currently, she lives in the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Maryland at Foxflower Wood Farm and is the Weaving and Natural Dyeing Teacher at Lovelyarns of Baltimore, Maryland. She also spends time each week as the admin of the Weavers Guild of Greater Baltimore Instagram social media, bringing weavers, spinners, and the community together since 1948.
