Artist Statement:

A pysanka is a Ukrainian Easter egg decorated with traditional folk design using a wax resist method. I wanted to honor the Ukrainian people and with pysanka eggs of Marblehead landmarks with a traditional bee motif. Bees are essential for human existence, being vital to pollinate the food we need to survive. Ukraine was one of the world's largest wheat and corn suppliers and now Russian forces have occupied areas and prevented grains from being exported, causing dire consequences. Their president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has held fast against the Russians, determined not to let the Russians steal his country with Putin's raging war, causing senseless deaths and suffering of the Ukrainian people.

Artist Biography:

Primarily a photographer and land/seascape oil painter, Holly Aloha Jaynes is also a portrait painter of "People Who Matter" series; The Murdered Women of the West Mesa, Journey of Immigrants, People of Color Murdered by Police and recently, The Children of Ukraine. "Something happens to me on a spiritual level when I paint the eyes, the mirror to the soul. I feel like I've made a connection." The photographer for the book, The Dames: Honoring the Good Women of Farrell Court, Powder House Court and Roads School, Jaynes says "these women showed me how truly beautiful, humble, wise and courageous our elders are." The book is in the Abbot Library. As a multidimensional artist she is focused on collage and found object art. She collects rust, wood and odd objects and turns them into "The Wild Woman of the Beach," "The Tea Tree," ode to homelessness, "The Hungry Ghosts," "Goddess of the Ocean, Oshun" and recently, "The Earth is Burning." "To create something from nothing takes imagination and passion, and then to share it is a monumental step. By showing my art I share a piece of myself, and once it's shown to others I let them translate its meaning, to disregard or appreciate it. Pick-up of purchased cods will be July 9-14 at MacRea's Goods, 108 Washington St, Marblehead during normal store hours. The winning bidder will receive a notification email with information on pick-up time and location.

If winning bidder requires shipping, winner's credit card will be charged a separate $24.95 fee to cover USPS ground and handling. Shipping is available within the U.S. only and must be requested within 7 days after receipt of the notification email.

Any cod purchased via "Buy Now" will remain on display at the hosting business through the end of the auction, and will be available for pick-up as detailed in the winning bidder notification email.

If winning bidder has not picked up cod (or provided shipping address) within 30 days after the close of the auction, cod will become the property of Marblehead Festival of Arts, Inc.
