Item Description

HENRI MATISSE (1869-1954):

Etudes pour la Vierge 'Tête voilée'

Global Justice Journal Foundation is pleased to present for your consideration Etudes pour la Vierge 'Tête voilée' – a set of two impeccably preserved lithographs on wove paper, which were inherited by Monsieur Matisse’s daughter, Marguerite Dithuit-Matisse, and subsequently acquired by our generous donor via auction in Europe. This exquisite pair of rare lithographs are now in the United States and ready to be shipped to the winning bidder.

The lithographs were created 1950-1951 and have been memorialized in Catalogue Raisonné de l'Oeuvre Grave as D. 642 and D. 643.

 D. 642 features the artist's initials and is stamp numbered 12/25. In addition to the very limited edition of 25 prints, there were also six artist's proofs. D. 643, printed in black and cream, also features the artist's initials and is stamp numbered Epr.d’art 3/4. In addition to four artist’s proofs, there was originally a limited edition of 25 prints. The number of prints and artist’s proofs still in existence is unknown.

Both lithographs have been lovingly matted and framed using acid-free mats, custom-made solid wood frames with a bronze finish, and non-glare UV-protective glazing.
