Item Description
With the combination of simplistic structure and roughened texture, sculptor Linda Prokop has captured in bronze a unique moment in Dr. Jane Goodall's career.
In the beginning, studying the chimpanzees of Gombe was not easy for Jane. The Gombe chimps fled in fear whenever they saw her. But Jane persisted, watching from a distance with binoculars. Gradually the chimps allowed her closer until finally one day a chimpanzee mother allowed her son, Flint, to approach Jane and the two extended hands. The moment Jane and the young chimp met is artfully captured in this sculpture and photograph. The depiction serves as a symbol of Jane's life-long mission to extend a helping hand to our closest living relative, the chimpanzee.
You are bidding on a miniature bronze of Jane kneeling and reaching out to a young chimpanzee. The sculpture is mounted on marble and measures 8 inches wide by 4 inches high.
Included is a framed 5X7 black & white photograph by Hugo van Lawick on which the sculpture is based. It will be signed and personalized by Jane.
Item Special Note
Please note: due to her extensive travel schedule, auction items to be personalized or signed by Jane will be shipped in late February 2008.
