Prosecutors spent the first day of testimony in Hunter Biden's federal gun trial detailing his history of drug use. The case is dredging up painful memories for the president and his family, and revealing new and highly personal details about their struggles with addiction and grief as the presidential election looms. He's accused of lying on federal gun forms in 2018. Jurors also got their first look at the document at the center the trial and heard audio excerpts of Hunter Biden's memoir. He has pleaded not guilty.
Joe Biden says as president he won't comment on his son Hunter's criminal trial, but as a dad he has “boundless love" for him. Hunter Biden and first lady Jill Biden are in a Delaware court for jury selection in a federal gun case against him after the collapse of a deal with prosecutors that would've avoided the spectacle of a trial so close to the 2024 election. President Joe Biden's son is charged with lying on federal gun purchase forms when he said he wasn’t a drug addict. Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty and argues he’s being unfairly targeted by the Justice Department. Republicans had decried the now-defunct deal as special treatment for the Democratic president's son.
For people putting a life back together after divorce, mundane household objects can be painful marital reminders. And in a practical sense, many items might have departed with the ex-spouse. Gift registries for divorce are a new way for loved ones to lend a hand, especially if they’re not quite sure how else to help. A rare divorce-specific registry, Fresh Starts, allows recipients to ask for items they need. Users say taking in gifts after divorce is a positive way to rebuild. It also allows friends and family to be present without taking sides, at least out loud. Fresh Starts has between 50,000 and 70,000 monthly users. Divorce registries are part of a trend toward breaking the stigma of broken marriages, along with divorce parties and formal divorce announcements.
Trump responds to his guilty verdict by falsely blasting a 'rigged trial' and attacking star witness
Donald Trump has attacked the judge and the star witness in his hush money criminal trial and criticized New York’s criminal justice system while trying to repackage his conviction as fuel, not an impediment, to his latest White House bid. Trump spoke to reporters at Trump Tower in Manhattan on Friday, his return to campaigning a day after he was convicted. President Joe Biden responded by blasting Trump's response, saying the Republican former president “was given every opportunity to defend himself.” The Democratic president says it's reckless, dangerous and irresponsible ”for anyone to say this is rigged just because they don’t like the verdict'"
Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group, the owner of social networking site Truth Social, are rising in early trading on Friday after former President Donald Trump was convicted in his hush money trial. A New York jury found Trump guilty of falsifying business records in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election through hush money payments to a porn actor who said the two had sex. Shares fell 9% immediately Thursday in after-hours trading as the verdict was announced, but are climbing in Friday morning trading.
Donald Trump has been convicted in his New York hush money trial, a landmark jury verdict making him the first former American president to be found guilty of felony crimes in the nation’s nearly 250-year history. The jury’s judgment Thursday caps a trial centered on lurid claims of sex and financial coverups and exposes Trump to prison time. The verdict represents a stunning courtroom reckoning for Trump, who was indicted in three other felony cases but wasn’t convicted until now. Coming six months before the presidential election in which Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee, the verdict will test voters’ willingness to elect for the first time a candidate with a criminal record related to hush money payments to a porn star.
