MEET RON

ARTIST

Ron Ramsay is a singer, musical director and coach of the American Songbook and the Sacred Song repertoire. A Berkshire native, after attending the Manhattan School of Music for classical voice, he remained in NYC changing his main focus to the Broadway Theater. Favorite roles include Matt in The Fantasticks, Tony in West Side Story, Linus in You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, and Paul in A Chorus Line, among others. Pre-Broadway workshops and recordings include, Dance with Me and the West End Production in London of Moses! with members of The London Symphony Orchestra . Ron's cabaret nightclub acts have sold out such rooms as the Algonquin, Feinstein's, Town Hall and Lincoln Center's Rose Room with his musical directors Billy Goldberg and Dick Gallagher -  as well as venues in such locales as St. Martin, St. Thomas, London, Paris, and Mykonos, Greece.  The New York Post raves "always a sublime Songbook".

Ron can be heard regularly in Berkshire County at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Naumkeag in Stockbridge & w/Samantha Talora on the Berkshire Scenic Railway. A popular duo they perform throughout the year at many venues around Berkshire County and beyond.

2024 Performances  & teaching : Jan '24 St Martin French West Indies, Canyon Ranch variety of workshops, The Villages, FL, Green 42 Room Yotel Manhattan,  May  "Godspell" director  & "Ron & Sam" Stationary Factory in the Berkshires, June Classical Recital (Coach/Musical Director) Geniveve Collins Mezzo-Soprano, "Jesus Christ Superstar" August , Fall London & Paris (TBA) and several concert and cabaret engagements to include returning to New York in as well as MasterClass in Manahttan & the Berkshires.

TEACHER

Ron has taught Song Interpretation throughtout his career  in NYC , London and currently in the Berkshires. Several of his students have achieved successful careers both On and Off Broadway as well as other genres that include opera, sacred and pop. 

​

Mentors and influential teachers in Ron's career have included  Emmy, Tony and Oscar winners Marge Champion, Betty Buckley, Sondra Lee, Ellen Burstyn , Maureen Stapleton and Billy Goldenberg. All were and are lifelong personal friends spanning the last 44 yrs.

Ron's emphasis at his piano and voice studio in Pittsfield, MA (or offered virtually) is centered around meeting each student to assist in assessing where they are in their individual journey then tailoring his teaching styles to nuture each student's specific learning strengths & unique style. Students range from youth to adolescent to adult and skill sets range from beginner level to professional.

Lesson packages can range from working on technique, theory, interpretation or coaching. Ron's depth of experience as a teacher allows your voice, piano and/or acting study to grow and flourish

MUSIC DIRECTOR

A Berkshire native, Ron's musical career began at the age of 7 at his childhood church. By the age of 10, he was an organist for church services and had created the “Summer Children’s Choir”. Stage and concert performances followed as both a singer, choral director, pianist and organist.

 

Ron was known at a very early age as an inspiration to 1000's of others to find their voice and passion through the joy of song. Church would prove to be a great "college" for Ron finding his musical path and honing his skills as an inspirational style of Music Directing. "Everyone can sing and I can get you to do that""During his teen years, he filled many directorship positions in the Berkshires. Most notably: Trinity United Methodist Church (age 13), Berkshire Public Theater with John Sauer (age 14) and The Berkshire Lyric Theater with Bob Blafield (age 14). Sunnybrook Baptist Church Dallas, Texas (age 15) Lee Congreational Church , Church-On-The-Hill & St Ann Church (current)

A stint at Tanglewood lead him to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts, Arts Magnet, in Dallas, TX, during which time he performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Fort Worth Symphony, The Dallas Baptist Church and several summer musicals at Dallas Fair Grounds. Before moving to NYC full time in 1988 , Ron was the Music Director at the Lee Congregational Church and Choral Director for the inaugural season of Berkshire Opera. In 1986 he became the Music Director at The DeSisto School in Stockbridge & Florida where he directed seven full productions held at the Berkshire Public Theater now known as Barrington Stage Company. His final production in 1988 was “Hair” which toured the former USSR for 7 weeks.  While at DeSisto, he created both "Dinner Theater at The Mansion" and in 1988 the highly acclaimed "Stockbridge Cabaret Series" hosting many NYC and international acts which ran for more than 12 seasons.

Mostly recently Ron was the Music Supervisor and Conductor for Dreambridge Productions of "BrightStar" & workshop of  "Carrying the Songs" which is in development . Most recently concert & appearances including WInterSolstice '21 & '22, St. Ann Chancel Choir sings the songs of Ola Gjiello,  and his favorite gig on going Music Director with his great friends Samantha Talora, Eileen Markland on Violin & Charlie Woodwinds. in a combination of genres from Jazz to Adult Contempoary. Upcoming production for 2024 are "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar".
