I think the issue is that private schools teach math in a different sequence than CPS, right? With, I'm sure, varying kinds of pedagogical justification. At my kids' school there are 3 tracks starting in 6th grade - super-accelerated - algebra in 6th, geometry in 7th, trig in 8th.
