  • It is important to hold on to them when you don't have many and you are just building your credit history.   Holding on to your old card just gives a data point as to how long you have had an account. If the next card is significantly long held it doesn't matter if you close a few.   Also closing that card would decrease your available credit limit if possible move the credit limit to another card managed by the bank.
