Welcome to Golden Hour

We are Chicago-based hairstylists Suzi Coates and Kyrie DeMay. Together we have created Golden Hour, an intimate hair studio in the Kimball Arts Center. Our collective has grown to welcome the talented Johno Burch and Kaitlyn Martin. We offer on-trend color, cut, and grooming services in an inclusive, comfortable and private setting.

Our desire to continually share with and learn from others has moved us to create a nurturing space where service providers feel empowered to find autonomy and self-fulfillment in their work. Golden Hour was born with the intention of being a home not just for us, but for everyone who comes through the door.

Our Mission.

As a collective, we aim to dismantle the unnecessary divisions within our industry with the goal of strengthening our ability to engage in important dialogue around relevant issues. We encourage others to call on peers and ask questions, crunch numbers, shake complacency, and take charge of their own careers. Our worth as service providers should not be qualified by the corporations in our industry, but by who we are as individuals. We don’t claim to have the answers, but we do know that there is so much we can learn from one another. It is our belief that, through this willingness to learn from each others’ strengths and weaknesses, we can all grow to the greatest of our ability.
