At Club SAW this Sunday, May 26, is the Mind Altering Festival, which combines a diverse menu of multidisciplinary arts that is sure to expand your mind.

It always feel like we’ve made it to summer after hitting that first long weekend! This weekend, despite only last a couple shorts days, is jammed packed with events and activities. 

Prepare yourself for an evening of murder, intrigue and… laughter! Kanata Theatre’s most recent production of Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery takes the classic tale of Sherlock Holmes and gives it a campy, comedic twist.

Due to complex plots, characters and language, Shakespeare’s works can be off-putting. However, Shakespeare’s plays don’t have to be intimidating. Such is proven in local youth theatre group The Company of Adventurers’s all-girls production of Hamlet, which played at The Gladstone Theatre from May 16–18, and embraced a modern refresh of the timeless tragedy.

The “lawyer play” is an annual fundraiser at the Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC), and has run for the last 24 years. This year’s production is Canadian author and playwright Anne-Marie MacDonald’s Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet). But, you must be wondering what a “lawyer play” is exactly. We got to chat with Jennifer Bond and Amanda Montague-Reinholdt, who both play the lead role of Constance in this year’s show, to learn a bit more about this unique event.
