DAVID PORTER

BIOGRAPHY

David Porter was born in Memphis, 21st November 1941 and raised in the Mc Lemore avenue area. After recording some sides on Golden Eagle, Savoy (as Little David) and Hi (as Kenny Cain), he naturally came to Stax quite from the beginning as he worked exactly across the street. He was as well a songwriter and producer, along with Isaac Hayes as a singer. In 1978 and 1979, he was in charge of relaunching the Stax label, then owned by Fantasy ("purple and white" Stax label), signing some Memphis new acts and issuing former Stax artists' unissued tracks, "Best of" LPs and singles and some of the best post-Atlantic Stax LPs.
