ABOUT US

Summerkids began in 1978, when we sought to create an atmosphere of warmth, creativity and fun for our own children's summer experience.

The camp has been owned and operated by the DiMassa family since its inception. You can read about our directors here and our fabulous staff here

Our programs include Summerkids, for K-6th graders, and Summer Challenge, for junior highers. They are the only summer camps in the greater Pasadena area to be held on a real campground.

All of our programs are held on a nearly-57-acre property in Altadena, at the edge of the Angeles National Forest.

This safe and secure location (completely fenced) includes beautiful meadows, streams, lodge, cabins, pool, sports fields, a 1,200-square-foot garden, hiking trails, an obstacle course, a chicken coop, centrally-located bathrooms and changing rooms, a camp office and much much more. More than a dozen water fountains are located around the property. We enjoy ample shade from our trees, many of which are more than 100 years old, and from the shade structures we erect each summer for camp use.

Originally known as Camp Chiquita, our campground has been dedicated to the use of children since 1946, when it was built as a residential camp.  In 1955, famed local architect Boyd Georgi designed the lodge we enjoy to this day.  We treasure both the history and the future of this very special place.

Our goal today is the same as it was when we began: to make summer a special time when your children can grow and play and learn new skills in an environment of natural beauty and caring staff.

  • "Our son had an amazing time. He can be slow to warm up to new situations but loved that he could choose his own activities and navigate the day on his own. He learned a lot too! Lanyards and D&D are new favorites of his."
