They don't know how to take reservations. Good food, came out at a good time, but we had a reservation and when we got to the restaurant it was completely full. They made us wait 20 minutes and sat a whole other table without a reservation before us.

Awesome sushi and fast service. To be honest, you are really missing out if you are in Scott's Valley for dinner and don't come here.
Service: Fast, polite waiters have your food out in minutes and always check to make sure you are enjoying the food.
Food: Undoubtedly the best sushi place I've been to. The popcorn lobster roll is great but the chicken katsu is incredible. Bento boxes come with tons of food: salad, fruit, rice, sauce, extra veggies, and choice of two main dishes (rolls, tempura, etc.) Sushi rolls are packed with ingredients and are super tasty. You will always leave feeling full.
Ambiance: Red lights on shelf close to ceiling, creating a strip light like effect. Walls are filled with Japanese paintings. Seats are red and black, including booths. There is a sushi bar to sit at, and multiple TVs playing sports games.
Price: A bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Ingredients are always super fresh and leave you super full. In reality, you won't find a sushi place much cheaper anyways.
In all, amazing resturaunt!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tina T.Sacramento, CA161Feb 23, 2024
Listen up, folks. Last night, my husband and I decided to check out Otoro for the second time, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of impressive. After some relentless praise from a friend, we thought, why not give it a shot? And boy, are we glad we did!
The moment we walked through those doors, we were met with a warm welcome from the owner, setting the tone for the entire evening. The owner and staff went above and beyond to make us feel like VIPs. Their genuine warmth and hospitality elevated the entire experience from great to unforgettable.
Now, onto the main event - the sushi. As connoisseurs of the art, my husband and I dove into a selection of nigiri and two rolls, and let me tell you, each bite was a revelation. In addition to the delightful sushi experience, I must mention the Oreo dessert, which was an absolute standout. Its decadent flavor and perfect texture added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal. Fresh ingredients, expertly prepared - it's clear these chefs aren't messing around.
So, in a nutshell, Otoro isn't just about the food - although that's top-notch too. It's about the entire package - the atmosphere, the service, the whole shebang. It's no surprise it came highly recommended, and mark my words, we'll be back for round three in no time. Do yourself a favor and check it out if you're in the market for an unforgettable dining experience!Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Terri R.Scotts Valley, CA38248Feb 20, 2024
The quality of the food, attention to detail, and customer-service oriented staff makes Otoro the best sushi place in the county - yes, I said in the county.
This Smudge T. person here is a complete troll.
Hey Smudge T., did you ever stop to think for one second, catch your rage level, and calmly ask them to please make it like the photo? After the server said it was the same roll, you could have said you really like avocado and to make like the photo please but nope. Instead you took your ball and went home, and stiffed them with the bill... bravoHelpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 3, 2024
The sushi here is soooo delicious! Perfect portions and the quality is so fresh and so good. Their dynamic oysters are one of our favs as they use aïoli sauce, and the specials are always tasty. We usually get the shishito peppers with truffle salt and the tuna tataki sashimi. We also get the sake flights with our sushi. It's a bit pricey but perfect for date nights. Forgot to take the picture of the sushi.

This is a super clean, spacious spot for a large group. In the heart of Scott's valley, this place has a great location and peaceful vibe. The owners are locals that are super involved in the business.
Our team of servers were wonderful given the last minute drop in. They accommodated our group of 22 and served us excellently always meeting our needs.
The portions were huge, and definitely more than enough. The bento box and the protein roll were too memorable meals.Helpful 0Thanks 2Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marynka R.Santa Cruz, CA282716Feb 20, 2024
The BEST sushi restaurant in our area. We have been going here for years and have always been treated well as we enjoyed amazingly fresh fish. Even when the restaurant is at its busiest - and it does get really busy, be prepared for a wait - the servers are always smiling and pleasant, taking the time to answer questions without rushing. It can get loud but that jjust shows how much people are enjoying their meal.
The rolls are creative and tasty, and the bentos and other menu items are consistently good. My go-to items are the Hamachi Kama, perfectly broiled yellowtail collar so moist and juicy, and the Oishi Roll, delicious bites of fish with just enough sauce to enhance the flavor. They also have a nice selection of sakes and the standard Japanese beers and serve big mugs of genmaicha tea.
A fantastic restaurant loved by locals and tourists alike!Helpful 1Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - Lauren B.Santa Cruz, CA14954Apr 4, 2024
Best sushi in Santa Cruz Co. the staff is very friendly! Pricing is fair considering the quality and size of the rolls. We always order our takeout from Otoro!

Our go-to spot when we're near Santa Cruz. The bento boxes have the typical choices but the fish is always so fresh. Rolls are filling and so good.

So I was visiting friends in Scott's Valley and I was hungry for some Japanese food. They said oh - go to Otoro.
Off to lunch I went. Walking in during the busy lunch hour I was happily greeted and seated promptly.
The place was clean, table, chairs, etc and I went off to wash my hands and the bathroom was very clean too so a great start.
I panned the menu and they had many great roll choices but I decided on the two item bento. Bento boxes are always a staple fare and a measure if a good sushi place that makes good sushi can make good other food.
One thing that became immediately obvious were the reasonable prices. A two item Bento with a sashimi choice was like $15 plus $2 for add on for six pieces of sashimi $17?? This is more like $22 to $25 where I go normally - so they must skimp on something I think to myself.
I order my choice and an ice tea and as I wait my cordial and very nice server checks in with me after dropping my drinks off.
Even with the very brisk lunch crowd filling the place - my food comes in 10 minutes. It looks great - rice, salad, sashimi, miso soup, three pieces of fresh fruit, and mixed tempura.
I dig in - the sashimi is nice- no fish smell - firm and cold - as i take each bite - it's fresh - tasty and of a good grade vs many places that go for thin slices etc to try to hide the lower quality of their sashimi grade fish - not here - not needed as it's fresh and top quality, even on a $15 bento box lunch - awesome !
The tempura is perfectly cooked - crunch and light and airy - not soaked with grease or oil so you know they clean their deep fryer oil and cooked it at the proper high temp to get a good crisp with no sogginess at all.
Salad is standard but their dressing has a little more tanginess than most so it's a nice touch. A healthy portion of miso soup with actual seaweed and tofu is a good start.
All in all - great service with smiling and helpful staff, great food quality from the fresh generous sashimi slices to the crispy and flavorful tempura, to prompt service including seating, ordering, and food coming out all during a busy lunch rush - and just important - a very clean place from table to bathroom - that's important to me in a big way - Great Job Otoro - this will be on my go to list from now on, Kudos to the staff and ownership!!!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0
