Yoga means union — of the body, mind and spirit. The main goal of yoga is freedom from suffering. This ancient meditative discipline uses the body as a tool for self discovery and transformation, uncovering the universal spirit within us all. This exploration begins by toning the body and quieting the mind. It is a balance between activity, reflection, and relaxation. As the body and mind become stronger and more flexible, mental focus and inner awareness increase. This promotes health and well-being and reduces suffering.

The Iyengar style of Hatha yoga was developed by B.K.S.Iyengar of Pune, India. This approach emphasizes correct alignment with the use of props (blocks, belts, blankets) and the use of yoga for therapeutic purposes.
