A Solid Foundation

In 1905 Peter Consigli, a skilled mason, established Peter Consigli & Sons in Milford, Massachusetts on the cornerstones of hard work, integrity and pride in craftsmanship. Over a century later, Consigli has grown from a local business into one of the largest employee-owned construction managers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

With more than 1,600 employees; 13 regional offices dotting the east coast from Maine to the Caribbean; and upward of $2.5 billion in annual volume, Consigli has expanded its roots, while maintaining its core competencies as a true builder with 650+ skilled carpenters, laborers and masons on staff.

1905

Peter Consigli migrated to America from Berceto, Italy and opened Consigli and Sons Masonry in Milford, MA.

1910-1940

All six of Peter’s sons grew up in the business and learned masonry.

1942

The company did residential work until World War II when all brothers enlisted except for Henry and Albert.

1950

Incorporated as Consigli Construction Co., Inc. with small commercial work, utilities, snow plowing and grave digging as primary markets.

1964

As a second-generation owner, Henry was successful in the greater Milford area doing roadwork, demolition and small building projects.

1971

Consigli continued with its roadwork, building public pools, renovation of many banks in Milford and the repointing of the façade of Sacred Heart Church.

1983

Henry Consigli, Sr. passed away, leaving the company to his son, Henry Consigli, Jr., now a third generation owner.

1989

Anthony Consigli joined his father Henry in the business, as a Project Manager and Superintendent helping to grow the business by transitioning the company to focus solely on institutional clients.

1990

Consigli, with 15 employees, maintained $1 million in annual volume.

1993

Consigli's institutional client, Phillips Academy

Consigli pushed through the recession by establishing relationships with larger institutional clients such as Phillips Academy.

1995

Matthew Consigli joined the company alongside his brother Anthony and father Henry. The Consigli Foundation was also established.

1997

Upon Henry’s retirement, Anthony and Matthew became the company’s fourth generation owners and company stakeholders.

1998

Consigli renovation of the UMass Amherst Old Chapel

The restoration of the UMass Amherst’s Old Chapel opened new doors into the historic restoration market.

2000

Despite the tech bubble burst, Consigli grew through the recession and began a 20+ project relationship with Milford Regional Medical Center.

2003

Consigli awarded Bowdoin College Chapel Restoration

Portland, ME office opened after being awarded the Bowdoin College Chapel Restoration.

2004

Consigli reached $50 million in annual volume and grew to 190 employees.

2005

Consigli is 100

Consigli celebrated its 100th anniversary.

2006

The Granite Building opened as Consigli’s Milford Headquarters, a project that relocated and rebuilt a local Milford schoolhouse, St. Mary’s Catholic School, built in 1898.

2006

Consigli names best place to work

For the first time, the company was named a Best Place to Work in MA by the Boston Business Journal.

2007

Consigli reached $250 million in annual volume, 290 employees and for the first time was awarded Best Places to Work in Maine by Mainebiz.

2008

Consigli opens office in Hartford

Hartford, CT office opened after Consigli was awarded the Trinity College Long Walk Restoration.

2008

Consigli continues to grow construction business

The foreclosure meltdown halted major construction across the country. Consigli grew despite the downturn by pursuing public and federal work.

2009

Consigli expanded to New York with the acquisition of Kirchhoff Construction Management, Inc., Pleasant Valley, New York.

2010

Consigli grew to $500 million annual volume and 400 employees.

2011

The Portland office achieved the ranking of #1 Best Place to Work in Maine by Mainebiz.

2012

Consigli opened its Boston office with a growing roster of local project wins in Boston and Cambridge.

2012

After completing the restoration of the New York State Capital, Consigli opened an office in Albany, New York.

2013

Ranked the second Largest Contractor in MA by the Boston Business Journal.

2013

Consigli’s Hartford office was named #1 Best Places to Work in Connecticut by the Hartford Business Journal.

2014

Consigli awarded renovation of Renwick Gallery

With the complete renovation of the Smithsonian Institution’s Renwick Gallery finalized, the company opened its Washington, DC office.

2015

Consigli celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Consigli Foundation and reached $1 billion in annual volume with 740 employees.

2017

Consigli’s Milford, MA headquarters expanded its presence with a new building.

2018

Consigli becomes 100% employee-owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

2019

J. Benton Construction and Consigli form a strategic partnership, solidifying our presence in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Caribbean.

2023

Consigli opens a North Carolina office in Raleigh-Durham, expanding its operations and regional presence into the local thriving economy.

A Tale of Two Brothers

Anthony and Matthew Consigli started out in the family business as kids organizing tools and equipment and later as teenagers digging graves and trenches. In 1997, after gaining experience in nearly every position in the company from laborer to project executive, the brothers took the helm as fourth-generation owners of the century-old business. They shared a joint vision and understanding of what was most important to grow a successful company—their people.

Together, they’ve cultivated a culture that feels more like a family—one that encourages teamwork, camaraderie and good corporate citizenship—with a strong focus on client relationships and the impact Consigli’s work has on its communities. Always accessible to their people and clients, Anthony and Matthew are committed to carrying on their family’s legacy as genuine builders.
