David Toms 265 Golf Academy

The David Toms 265 Academy is a World Class Instruction and Training Facility for golfers of all skill levels. We offer training for beginners all the way to experts trying to keep their skills at peak performance.

The facility features a 9-hole par 3 course designed to simulate approach shots on par 4’s or a third shot into a par 5 hole. The par 3 provides practice and fun with a variety of shots from 120 yards and in. The practice teeing areas provide ample tee space and pristine turf conditions with a variety of target greens to dial in yardages. Eight practice greens offer the golfer the opportunity to hone their putting, chipping, pitching, and bunker skills with precision. The Loop is the perfect place to tie it all together after your practice sessions and features a par 5, par 3, and par 4.

  • Par 3 Course
    • “My intention with the par 3 course was to design an area that specializes in shot values for the wedge game. The holes are intended to mimic approach shots to par 4’s or a third shot into a par 5. Each hole has a shot value that we wanted to give our members to work on. For example, we have a green with water on the left, one with water on the right, we have a narrow green that is deep, and we have a wide green that is shallow. Every curve, hill, tree, and bunker is in place for a very precise reason. This area will give our members a unique ‘course’ to work on their short game while also trying to post a score. Golfers can practice a variety of shots from 120 yards and in and have a lot of fun doing it.”

  • Practice Facility

    • First and foremost, I wanted to make sure we had ample teeing area so that we always have pristine turf to hit from. Our main tee box is bigger than a football field, and we have more than one tee box, so I feel like we will always have plenty of great grass to play from. We have over 2.3 acres of tee space, so no one will ever feel jammed together. We have several target greens in the range at various distances to work on precision. The target greens have zoysia grass which offers a color contrast from the surrounding Bermuda grass. In addition, we are cutting the grass in a certain way to have fairway corridors to promote accuracy.” “We have a total of 8 greens that are dedicated to chipping, pitching, bunker practice and putting. Our four putting greens provide a lot of space to work on your stroke. We even have one green that is almost completely flat so you can practice straight putts and alignment. Each of our 4 greens dedicated to pitching/chipping will offer plenty of variety to work on bump and run, flops, and much more.”

                                                                                                                                                       - David Toms

  • The Loop
    • “After working on your game at the par 3 course and the practice range, we want to give our players a quality experience to implement all facets of the game. Our par 5 can stretch to almost 600 yards and offers many challenges along the way. While there is a generous landing area, out of bounds is on the left and a ball short right will find water. If you decide to lay-up on your second shot, be careful because a pot bunker sits in the middle of the fairway about 60 yards short of the green. The green is fronted by a bunker on the left and we have some deep rough on the right.”

“The 2nd hole is a long par 3 that can play up to 250 yards, but we encourage each of our guests to play from a yardage they need to practice. Trees are all down the left side and a large bunker protects the left side of the green while a smaller pot bunker guards the right side. The front of the green is open which will allow for a ball to run up.”

“The 3rd hole plays around 415 yards and looks very narrow from the teeing area. It’s a fun par 4, but you won’t want to miss your approach to the right because there is a pretty severe slope that will put any errant shot in the water.”

                                                                                                                                                       - David Toms
