ANTHESIS WINES

We search for gripping vineyards, chasing flavors and capturing their character. We keep our wines young & vibrant, yet rich and elegant.
~ Winemaker Sandro Tamburin

Anthesis Wines is D’Argenzio Winery’s sister label. Sandro and his wife Breanna Tamburin (daughter of Ray D’Argenzio) are the founders and owners of Anthesis Wines. Winemaker Sandro Tamburin’s passion for viticulture and fermentation has always been a part of him. He grew up in the vineyards of Trieste, Northeastern Italy, and took his memories of his grandfather cane pruning their estate vineyard with him when he came to America when he was 17 years old. Sandro strives to make his wine in the old way, “Alla Vecia”, where they leave the skin in contact with the juice for a prolonged period of time.

Their first release includes 2016 vintages of: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Picpoul Blanc, and Falanghina. The Picpoul Blanc and Falanghina are especially unique as they are orange wines.

2017 Vintage Release: Pinot Noir, Petaluma Gap

Coming Soon: 2017 Falanghina, 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018 Pinot Noir, and 2018 Chardonnay.  Cabernet Sauvignon estimated release date is Summer 2020.

Located in the Northern part of Mendoncino Co, city of Laytonville, at 2700 feet of altitude grows the Falanghina.  This is a traditional white aromatic southern Italian variety grown around the Vesuvius for thousands of years. On the other hand, this site promotes ripeness of the fruit, yet it maintains a lower sugar concentration with an excellent expression of acidity and minerality.  This site specifically allows for balanced physiological ripeness and this is the foremost important factor when working with this vineyard. We harvest our Falanghina after mid-October, allowing for the tannin to soften and round so that we are able to conduct a 100 percent whole cluster fermentation that lasts 30 days. this promotes extraction of terpenes and polyphenols from the skins of this amazing white grape, hence the orange color.

Located in the Northern part of Mendoncino Co, city of Laytonville, at 2300 feet of altitude grows the Picpoul Blanc.  This is a traditional white French variety grown in Languedoc, that is less known and harder to come by. On the other hand, this site promotes ripeness of the fruit, yet it maintains a lower sugar concentration with an excellent expression of acidity and minerality.  This site specifically allows for balanced physiological ripeness and this is the foremost important factor when working with this vineyard. We harvest our Picpoul Blanc after mid-October, allowing for the tannin to soften and round so that we are able to conduct a 50 percent whole cluster fermentation that lasts 15 days. This promotes extraction of terpenes and polyphenols from the skins of this amazing white grape, yet keeps this wine elegant.

From the foothills of the mayacama moutains comes our 2016 Chardonnay with high acidity and ripe aromas. harvested at 23 brix and fermented in 100% stainless steel, this wine showcases the funk of the spontaneous fermentation and only partial malolactic with bright character of the wente clone. In essence it is all here bottled in 10 months from date of harvest. This is pure representation of this chardonnay with its microflora and vineyard site.

The 2017 Pinot Noir lies at 1000 feet of altitude at the Northern Edge of the new AVA Petaluma Gap, Sonoma County, in a 50-year-old vineyard. This Pinot stays cool throughout the day with fog covering the vineyard in the early mornings, protecting the delicate skin of this variety. With the hot summer in August, we picked early on September 14th at 22.5 Brix. Acidity retained high, all spontaneous fermentation with 45% whole cluster, 100% New French Oak in 500 liter puncheon barrel, from the south of France. At 12.7% abv this wine has bright fruit with great structure and presence of acidity, a spicy core of reduction elevates its brininess and healthy tannin.

2016 Reserve Pinot Noir – The 2016 Pinot Noir vineyard lies at 1000 feet of altitude at the Southwest portion of Sonoma Mountain bordering the new Petaluma Gap AVA at the Northeastern boarder, in a 25 year old vineyard. This Pinot stays cool throughout the day with fog covering the vineyard in the early mornings, protecting the delicate skin of this variety. With the hot summer in August, we picked early on September 1st at 23 Brix. Acidity retained high, all spontaneous fermentation with native yeast. 5% Whole Cluster, 100% French Oak – 10% New. 13.75% abv.
