Caroline Price Art

Showcasing Caroline Price's Watercolors and Pastels

I have enjoyed painting and drawing all my life. My husband, Will, and I live in Bozeman, MT. We have two sons, Jack and Luke, and the whole family enjoys fly fishing.

The beautiful colors and patterns found in nature are my favorite subjects. Lately, I am painting watercolor fly fishing flies and trout and selling them as notecards and framed prints. I paint the fish from photographs taken in the few seconds before the fish is released back in the river. Every fish is unique, depending on its habitat and diet.

The drips of color in my trout watercolor prints reflect the watery world of the trout and highlight their bright colors. My primary mediums are watercolor, pastel, and pencil. In the past, I have taught preschool and the Spanish language to the elementary grades in the World Language Initiative in Bozeman.

Check out my notecards and art for sale at Heyday, Cello, Urban Kitchen, Café M, Dan Bailey’s in Livingston, the Sage Lodge in Paradise Valley, Thistle Creek in Big Timber, and the Madison River Fishing Company in Ennis, MT.

The Evolution of a Brown Trout

Step 1

I start with a light pencil outline, and lighter colors first. I work on the head, then move to the rest of the body.

Step 2

Saving my "highlights" which will remain white paper, with no paint, I add more layers of paint, darker colors last.

Step 3

Once the layers of background skin color are complete, I add the spots, details on the fins and tail.

Final Step

Spots are finished, details and spots added to the tail. Erase all pencil lines and sign them!
